Finishing my first long course triathlon! (1 mile swim, 34 mile bike, 10 mile run)

Swim:

I started in wave 5 and as swimming is my strength I passed a lot of people in waves 4 and 3 which started about 8 minutes before me! There were 550 people competing in the long course race and my swim was the 21st fastest out of the competition!

Bike:

The bike was awesome! So much fun! There were beads of water floating in the air. Classic Santa Barbara morning. I ran out of transition and got ready for my flying mount. I’ve done a flying mount before on Havok (my bike) but I guess it’s been awhile and I landed on my stomach and was gliding in the air like a flying squirrel. I ran into the curb but saved myself and didn’t fall! My teammates were laughing at me but I was laughing with them. :P Despite a rough start I was blazing past people from the start right out of the transition area. I think I’m pretty good at climbing hills because that’s where I passed people the most. I passed some teammates along the way that started in earlier heats than me and got some good vibes from them! Overall my bike was 49th fastest out of the 550 racers

Run:

The run. The painful run. It was a loooong run. I’ve never ran more than 7 miles before in my life and I was faced with 10 miles right after a swim and a 34 mile bike. It hurt. Running is definitely my weakness but I held through. The last two miles were absolute torture. I stopped to walk about three times in the last two miles. At the last aid station I stopped one last time and went for it. At the last stretch where everyone cheers you on I made a last spring and passed two people to finish the run and the entire triathlon! Crossing that finish line was one of the best feelings of my life. My run was 289th out of everyone else’s run split :P Definitely my weak spot.

I finished 109th overall and got second in my age group 18-19 with a time of 3:32:46. One of the best days of my life!

Shoutout to all my teammates that were on the race course cheering me on when I needed it most! Y’all are the best teammates and friends a guy could ask for!

I had two of ten miles left to run at the #SantaBarbaraTriathlon when I saw my awesome teammates cheering me on to the finish! Couldn’t ask for a better group of friends to see whilst on the verge of passing out! Crossing that finish line was one of the best feelings ever and I’m so glad all of you were there to share that moment with me!
